RIP UP YOUR SALE BANNERS


There’s nothing worse than looking down the highstreet and seeing an abundance of unimaginative, red sale banners as far as the eye can see.
Sales on the highstreet used to be vibrant and bussling but there’s something rather depressing about this years sales. “Pile em high, sell em cheap” seems to be the order of the month (order of the last few years actually) but don’t forget, this time of year can be as lucrative as any. Not just with selling your old stock to make way for new, you will find new faces coming through your doors, people shop differently in sale. They boldly go where they haven’t been before, hunting for a bargain. Do not miss this opportunity to impress these potential new regular customers, wow them even in sale. You know the usual, make sure the service is spot on, store standards are kept immaculate, blah blah blah... But PLEASE don’t forget your window. There is still opportunity to be had by a well constructed window display, even in sale. And as I’m sure your shop is gorgeous and chic- I’m afraid a big plastic sale banner doesn’t make the grade. Think outside the box, be as creative as you are in every other window display (or pay a professional to do it for you).
As you can see here in my Covet and Crave sale window, we decided that we would create a vectogram all surrounding the Covet and Crave sale. Fun, eyecatching and most of all unusual! Sale posters merge into one after a walk down the highstreet and make no point about the shop, its values, its branding or the sale itself. An unusually constructed sale theme with beautifully displayed, reduced products will pull people through the door. Remember to stick to the use of red in your theme though- predictable I know but we’re conditioned to associate red with a sale.
A tricky problem will be getting the product to sit together well, never easy in a sale. Last odds and ends of lines, in all different colours, from all different brands are never going to look inspirational together but try to keep to a theme, one brand or one set of colours that work together. Just give it a bit of love and attention.
